In Support of Freedom of the Press

Posted by Mike O on February 14, 2008

As an advocate of democracy within the global community, I am in full agreement with Ed on this one. So, in solidarity with the Danish press and their right to print such things, I present:

Insulting? Yes, and not something I’d normally do. But it is a right to do so, if one chooses. Considering the insults to Christianity (like a crucifix in a jar of urine) that have actually been presented as art, this one is certainly no worse.

And, unlike many of the Danes, I am also a firm believer in- and practitioner of- the U.S. Constitution’s 2nd Amendment.

  1. I’m going to have to write about this at some point. I firmly support freedom of the press, and at the very same time I cringed when they did this, just as I cringe when the violent protests erupt.

I get a very strong sense some in the Danish community are doing this for decidedly hateful reasons, which is a damn shame, since they are absolutely 100% in the right to print the cartoons, and that taints the perception of the act.

Possibly some people have trouble with those who pin messages to the chest of others with a knife to disagree with them. Not to mention growing fear of loss of their culture to the intolerance of the new immigrants. Now throw in the torching and looting by ‘immigrant youths’. Yeah, there could be some hostility developing.
