Obama: Honor your Commitments as a Man!

Posted by Mike O on July 27, 2008

OK: this has gone beyond being a two-faced politician (all are, to some degree). I’m calling Obama’s manhood into question.

I’ll start with the one that chaps me the most because of my own work in the area. I’ve just sent off $1,500 this month for promises I made for education in Africa (most of which- since applied directly for the orphans involved as a ‘gift’ to people like my daughter– is not even tax deductible). My family annual income is about the monthly income of the Obamas this year. And yet he’s done NOTHING about this 2 year-old promise:

Senator Obama has not honoured the promises he gave me when we met in 2006 and in his earlier letter to the school. He has not given us even one shilling.”

I challenge Barack Obama to set this right. Even if Obama is not man enough to keep this promise personally, he can pass the hat for them at his next big fundraiser, or put a online donation mechanism in place accessible from his campaign website. If he does the latter, I’ll even kick in $20 myself to make sure his 10 relatives at this school have water.  The source of the money won’t matter to the people at this school and his personal humiliation can then at least be covered up by his friends in the News Media.

And it’s time for him to book that plane back to Germany and visit those wounded troops he bypassed to work out in the gym and shop. No matter what the reason he chose not to go without your campaign people, he should make up that visit to these wounded warriors. Politically, this one will undo nearly everything good from your World Tour; if not for honor’s sake, Obama needs to fulfill this one for raw political expediency.

Then, he might think of hitting up some of his new big money friends to help with this little bit of unfulfilled promises he left in the old hometown.

Barack called out the men in the black community to fulfill their responsibilities of fatherhood; I’m calling him out on the responsibilities of his pledged commitments, a a ‘citizen of the world’.

Man up, Barack; meet those commitments!

Then we can get back to talking just policies (and how yours would suck).

Wow. This is a new one on me. Congrats for digging it up. Here is more fodder for you…

Obama’s rhetoric makes him sound so socially responsible, but clearly he does not put his money where his mouth is. And Joe Biden is riding Barack Obama’s wave of false compassion. Check out the records:

First, Google “Found in a rundown Boston estate: Barack Obama’s aunt Zeituni Onyango”

From 2000 through 2004, the Obama and his wife never gave more than $3,500 a year in charitable donations — about 1 percent of their annual earnings. In 2005, however, that total jumped to $77,315 (4.7 percent of annual earnings), and to $60,307 in 2006 (6.1 percent). More than $27,000 total was given to Obama’s church, Trinity United Church of Christ, whose former pastor Jeremiah Wright has dominated recent news coverage.

The Bidens reported giving $995 in charitable donations last year — about 0.3% of their income and the highest amount in the past decade. The low was $120 in 1999, about 0.1% of yearly income.

In 2006, Sarah and Todd Palin donated $4,250 to charity in cash/check donations and $630 in non-cash/check donations, for a total of $4,880. This is 3.3% of their adjusted gross income. In 2007, Sarah and Todd Palin donated $2,500 to charity in cash/check donations and $825 in non-cash/check donations, for a total of $3,325. This is 1.5% of their adjusted gross income. While Palin’s record is not stellar, it is a whole lot better than Joe’s. Consider also they have 5 kids to support.

Senator McCain donates his royalties from his books to charitable organizations. This sum has totaled over $1,800,000 since 1998 when he signed his first book deal. Senator McCain’s book income of $256,898 for 2006 and 2007 is comprised of earnings for Faith of My Fathers, Worth the Fighting For, Why Courage Matters, Character is Destiny, and Hard Call. In 2006, Senator and Mrs. McCain donated $129,390 from community assets to charity, of which Senator McCain’s one-half allocation was $64,695. This is 19% of his adjusted gross income. In 2007, Senator and Mrs. McCain donated $210,933 from community assets to charity, of which Senator McCain’s one-half allocation is $105,467. This is 27.2% of his adjusted gross income for the year. Most of Senator McCain’s contributions were made to the John and Cindy McCain Family Foundation, which makes direct contributions to charities. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are both hypocrites!

  2. […] guy just won an undeserved Nobel Peace Prize; the least he could do is use a little of it to honor the personal commitment he made while in Africa.  If he were to do so, I’d send a leeter of appreciation to the man (even while disagreeing […]
